Campus Description

Founded in 1916, St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is a four-year, comprehensive, coeducational, private institution in the liberal arts tradition with campuses in Brooklyn and Patchogue, New York. With a combined enrollment of approximately 5,000 students, SJC offers the lowest tuition of all top-tier private colleges on Long Island, and is one of the most affordable private institutions in the tri-state area. With almost 600 faculty members, the College enjoys a student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1, which provides individual attention in an open, supportive atmosphere. 

The College offers baccalaureate degrees in more than 30 majors, including Hospitality and Tourism Management and Journalism and New Media Studies. In addition, special course offerings, advanced certificates and pre-professional programs are available. Graduate degrees include Childhood or Adolescent Special Education with an annotation in Severe and Multiple Disabilities, Infant and Toddler Early Childhood Special Education, Literacy and Cognition, Mathematics Education and a dual M.A. in Literacy and Cognition/Special Education with an annotation in Severe and Multiple Disabilities. Other degrees include Human Services Leadership, an M.S. in Forensic Computing, an M.S. in Nursing and an M.S. in Management with concentrations in Organizational Management, Health Care Management and Human Resources Management. SJC offers M.B.A. degrees in Accounting, Health Care Management and Health Care Management with a concentration in Health Information Systems, as well as an online Executive M.B.A. program. On the Brooklyn Campus, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing is available. There are also three advanced graduate certificates in Human Services Leadership, Human Resources and Health Care Management. The College also offers almost a dozen dual-degree programs, which allow students to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in a condensed period of time at an affordable rate. In 2015, the College introduced an online campus with SJC Online, a fully online learning community offering 12 degrees and five certificates.

SJC Brooklyn is home to the Dillon Child Study Center, a laboratory preschool used as a resource by students majoring in child study, as well as the McEntegart Hall Library. Located at 212 Vanderbilt Avenue, the 43,623-square-foot Hill Center features a 290-seat NCAA-regulation basketball and volleyball court, a fully equipped fitness center, locker rooms, an athletic training room and a multipurpose room. The Brooklyn Bears’ new home opened in December 2014. SJC Brooklyn offers easy access to transit lines and brings students from every part of the New York metropolitan area to the College each day. Students enjoy the freedom of campus life, while profiting from the many cultural and educational advantages of being in New York City. The 30-acre lakeside SJC Long Island is an ideal setting for studying, socializing and partaking in extracurricular activities. Just off Sunrise Highway, the College is easily accessible from all parts of Long Island. SJC Long Island features state-of-the-art facilities, including the Business Technology Center and the John A. Danzi Athletic Center, as well as the Clare Rose Playhouse, the Callahan Library and the 24.8-acre Outdoor Field Complex, located approximately one mile east of the main campus.
